January 23 to 26
Welcome back, Terriers! BU kicked off the spring semester with a short week, so the weekend is already upon us. It’s set to be a busy one on campus, with highlights that include SPLASH 2.0 and the annual men’s hockey two-game faceoff against their biggest rival, Boston College.
Whether this is your first semester at BU or your last, BU Today has got you covered!
Trasluz/Translucent Show and Opening Reception
Thursday is the opening night of Trasluz/Translucent at the Stone Gallery, a collaboration between artists Michael Zachary and Juan José Barboza-Gubo that explores the evolving concept of landscape and the sensation of being immersed in it. Barboza-Gubo uses frosted acrylic panels that blur light-filled forms, inspired by the Peruvian rainforest, while Zachary layers cross-hatched lines of only CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and key [black]) on white surfaces, challenging the viewer to physically step back to enjoy the work. Presented by the BU Art Galleries, the show is curated by Sarah Montross, senior curator of the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum.
The opening reception for Trasluz/Translucent is Thursday January 23, 6 to 8 pm, at the College of Fine Arts Stone Gallery, 855 Comm Ave. The show is on view through March 7, 2025.
Comedy Night at Back Bay Social
If you’re in need of a laugh (and are 21-plus), check out Back Bay Social’s weekly comedy night. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and consistent lineup of great standup comedians, Back Bay Social serves dinner and a show each Thursday. Headliners often travel from major comedy hubs, like NYC or LA, and many are critically acclaimed and have been featured on platforms such as Netflix, HBO, and Comedy Central. The venue is first come, first served, so attendees should arrive when the doors open at 6 pm.
Thursday, January 23, 7 to 8:30 pm, Back Bay Social, 867 Boylston St., Boston. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here.
BU Men’s Ice Hockey vs. Boston College

One of the busiest and most anticipated weekend matchups for Terrier fans, both games are guaranteed to be exciting.
