Looking Back at Boston University’s 2025 Move-In
Scenes of 11,500-plus students arriving: strangely familiar yet excitingly fresh every year
They came from across the country and around the globe for the annual tradition of organized chaos known as Move-In—the late summer arrival of thousands of students to Boston University’s campus housing.
Over the last two weekends of August, a total of 11,532 students checked into their dorm rooms and campus apartments. The busiest day was August 23, when 3,072 Terriers arrived. This year’s event was aided by flawless weather, and BU President Melissa Gilliam was out and about greeting arriving students.
“Our Move-In process is a true team effort,” says Paul Riel, associate vice president of Auxiliary Services. “This year’s success reflects the incredible collaboration between Housing, Campus Operations & Planning, BUPD, Dining, Student Affairs, Enrollment & Student Administration, and many others.”
BU staff photographers captured the action on the Charles River and Fenway campuses, and BU Today pulled a collection of images from the nearly 1,000 that were shot, showing the energy, excitement, and yes, exhaustion that marked BU’s Move-In 2025.
