On March 22, clouds of vibrant powder drifted over the BU Beach, covering students from head to toe in dazzling hues of blue, yellow, green, orange, and pink. Singing, laughter, and the sound of Bollywood music echoed across the green as students smeared color on friends and strangers alike.
The occasion? The annual celebration of Holi, the Hindu festival of colors that marks the arrival of spring each year.
Hosted by BU’s Hindu Cultural Association, the event drew a diverse crowd of more than 100 students eager to participate in the festival, which also marks the triumph of good over evil.
One of them was Naisha Jaiswal (CAS’28), who says that “Holi at BU really brought me back to the celebrations I would always have back home. Everyone showing up, all the music, the dances, everything felt so familiar, yet there was something special about experiencing it here. The energy was so contagious!”
By the end of the afternoon, the BU Beach was dusted in shades of pink and yellow. Attendees left in high spirits, with streaks of color in their hair and clothes.
For many students, the celebration is a chance to reconnect with their culture and share it with the broader BU community.
“It was a great way to be in touch with my culture when I am so far away from home,” says Priyal Patel (COM’27), a BU student from Chicago. “Getting the opportunity to have these incredible memories with my friends here was wonderful.”
