Giving Day 2024: BU Celebrates 10 Years of Giving Back
Annual one-day fundraising event supports more than 800 causes across the University
BU’s 10th annual Giving Day is Wednesday, April 3, with activities across campus that include free food, BU swag, and the return of the Trivia Trolley, which invites students to test their knowledge of all things BU for a chance to win extra funds for their favorite clubs and organizations. New this year is the chance to participate in painting a community mural on Marsh Plaza—just one of the many ways to celebrate 10 years of Terriers helping Terriers through this one-day giving campaign.
Every gift, of any amount, made from midnight EDT to midnight PDT on April 3 counts toward the Giving Day total—and toward the goal of receiving gifts from 13,000 donors this year. There are more than 800 causes to choose from, many with the opportunity to receive dollar-for-dollar matches or bonus funds through donor challenges.
Among the causes that could receive matches are:
- The BU Food Pantry, which supplies groceries to BU students facing food insecurity
- The Newbury Center, which empowers first-generation students to reach their potential
- BU Diversity & Inclusion, which works to make the campus welcoming to all
- The General Scholarship Fund, which helps increase access to the many benefits of a BU education.
Donors can also choose to provide flexible support for immediate needs across the University by giving to the Area of Greatest Need Fund. Or they can find the priorities of their favorite school, college, or program at bu.edu/givingday.

“The BU community’s enthusiasm for giving back is truly inspiring,” says Erika N. Jordan, BU vice president for alumni engagement, “and it’s never more evident than on Giving Day. It’s especially great to see how alumni turn out to support current students, as they do every year.”
The Giving Day Ambassadors program, which kicked off last year, has grown significantly. More than 500 Terriers signed up this year to help spread the word about Giving Day to their classmates, family, and friends. Each ambassador receives a unique link to share, and gifts made through that link are tracked throughout the day on a leaderboard.
Last year’s Giving Day brought in more than $3.8 million from more than 12,000 donors, breaking records both for the total raised and for the number of donors.
“We had a terrific Giving Day last year,” says Scott Graham, executive director of annual giving, “and I expect this year’s to be even better. It’s amazing to reflect on 10 years of giving back from Terriers around the world.”
