Terriers in Charge: Annie Goodridge (Questrom’24, SPH’24)
Annie Goodridge (Questrom’24, SPH’24), president of Cohort Q, the LGBTQIA+ affinity club for Questrom graduate students
Founded in 2012, Cohort Q began as a social club, and many of its activities are based around social events, like attending a local drag show or other LGBTQIA+ events in and around Boston. But as the club’s new president this year, Goodridge says, she’s hoping to provide more career networking opportunities for members. Cohort Q also provides academic advice to other first-year and part-time LGBTQIA+ students and connects members with internship and job opportunities at companies that have queer employee resource groups. Goodridge hopes to partner with Questrom’s Feld Center for Career and Alumni Engagement to bring in more diverse speakers and companies that have queer representation so graduate students can see themselves in their future workplaces.
“It’s important to feel like you belong and feel successful in your career without your sexual orientation getting in the way,” she says.
Pursuing a dual-degree program (an MBA in health sector management at Questrom and a master’s in public health with a concentration in epidemiology and biostatistics at the School of Public Health), Goodridge says it can be challenging to meet people and make friends. “Cohort Q has given me the opportunity to make genuine friendships here at Questrom. As president, I hope the club gives members a sense of true belonging as a queer student.”
Cohort Q will host a free “Thirsty Thursday” event at Cornwall’s Pub, 644 Comm Ave, on Thursday, November 2, from 4 to 6 pm, and all students interested in learning more about the club or in joining are welcome. To find out more about the club, email cohortq@bu.edu.
