Why should I go?
The 25th annual Roxbury International Film Festival is the largest film festival in New England showcasing films by, for, and about people of color. The filmmakers featured this year are from around the world, with entries representing the United States, South Africa, Canada, Kenya, and Ecuador.
Festival highlights include The Honeymoon, about a group of friends who band together to make the most of one woman’s honeymoon when she is dumped by her fiancé; Stonebreakers, a documentary about the conflicts surrounding historical monuments to figures like Christopher Columbus and Robert E. Lee; Pattern, a portrait of a man struggling to raise his baby following his partner’s death; and MIWENE, a coming-of-age documentary about a young Waorani woman in the Amazon rainforest at a critical moment for the culture and its environment.
The films are grouped into viewing blocks with specific themes, such as Artists in Their Own Words, Resilience & Family, and Unsung Heroes. Check out the ArtsEmerson website for the full list of blocks, along with descriptions, runtimes, and credits for each entry. The ROXFILM@HOME program brings these incredible films right to your home, allowing virtual access with the purchase of a ticket.
