A Crowdsourced List of the Best Holiday Movie Classics

A Crowdsourced List of the Best Holiday Movie Classics
‘Tis the season
’Tis the season, Terriers! Now is the perfect time to invite friends over, whip up some gingerbread cookies, and cuddle up on the couch with some hot cocoa to watch a holiday movie. While there seem to be endless holiday-themed movies to choose from, we decided to go back to basics. To help get the ball rolling, we asked the BU community on Facebook and Twitter for their favorite holiday movie classics. They delivered. Here’s a list of the top six holiday classics our followers agreed on.

1.
Elf
This was definitely a popular answer in the mix. Who doesn’t love a good Will Ferrell movie? The movie follows an oversized elf named Buddy, who travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his father, Walter Hobbs. Despite the fact that his father doesn’t know who he is, Buddy eventually bonds with his father and teaches him how to have some holiday cheer.

2.
The Polar Express
To literally nobody’s surprise, The Polar Express was a popular answer from our followers. The movie is about a young boy’s magical adventure to the North Pole on Christmas Eve on the Polar Express. Throughout the night, the boy learns about the power of friendship and the true spirit of the Christmas holiday.
Also, it’s hard not to love a Tom Hanks movie.

3.
Die Hard
This is a 1988 action movie that turned into a holiday cult classic. This story follows a New York City police officer, played by Bruce Willis, who attempts to save his wife and her coworkers, who have been taken hostage by terrorists at a holiday party in Los Angeles. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and give it a watch. It’s definitely entertaining.

4.
Home Alone
It might actually be impossible to get through the holiday season without seeing this movie. In case you somehow haven’t watched it, the story follows eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, who is accidentally left home alone during a planned family vacation. While home, Kevin must defend the house against a duo of goofy burglars. We still think it’s mind-blowing that Catherine O’Hara plays Kevin’s mom in Home Alone and Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek.

5.
Love Actually
This story chronicles the experiences of eight diverse couples as they navigate their love lives in the lead-up to Christmas in London, England. The movie comprises various loosely-related tales.

6.
A Christmas Story
“Be sure to drink your Ovaltine. Ovaltine? It’s a crummy commercial?! Son of a….” This classic follows the story of Ralphie Parker, who spends the holiday season trying to convince his parents, teacher, and Santa that the best gift for him is a Red Ryder Range 200 Shot BB gun. All while avoiding the classic response to his wish: “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid.”
Happy Holidays, Terriers! ☃️🌲
