The Scoop N Scootery

Scoop N Scootery was first operated out of a food truck, and its original mission was offering fast delivery of unforgettably delicious ice cream sundaes. It now has three brick-and-mortar locations across Massachusetts (Allston, Brighton, and Arlington), where ice cream lovers can choose from an assortment of sundae creations, like the “4 Horsemen,” peanut butter Oreo ice cream and a brownie core, or “Sweater Weather,” a mix of pumpkin ice cream topped with doughy sugar cookie bites and caramel syrup. Customers can also design their own frozen treats at the customization station. Scoop N Scootery ice cream is also available for delivery here.

Tous Les Jours specializes in French-Asian fusion style desserts. Stop by the shop and choose from over 300 baked goods, including cakes, pies, breads, and macarons. If you want something sweet, try the taro buttercream bread or sweet rice donut, and if you’re in the mood for something savory, opt for the ham and cheese croissant or kimchi croquette. The store stays true to its name: Tous Les Jours translates to “every day” in French, because of its commitment to providing desserts made fresh every day.

Far Out Ice Cream

Far Out Ice Cream offers a unique style of soft-serve ice cream originated in New Zealand. The dessert is created by blending together normal hard ice cream with frozen fruit, resulting in a frozen treat thicker than soft-serve ice cream, but creamier than normal ice cream. Customers start out by choosing a base—vanilla, chocolate, or frozen yogurt (dairy-free options also available)—blended with their choice of fruit—blueberry, raspberry, banana, strawberry, mango, pineapple, or kookaberry—served in a cup or waffle cone. Toppings include chocolate flakes, sprinkles, or graham crackers. A wide selection of coffees is also available.

Fomu’s “earth-inspired” desserts are both sustainable and delicious. The multiple ice cream flavors are made with coconut milk and natural sweeteners, while the baked goods have natural, plant-based, kosher, and allergy-friendly ingredients and are packaged in environmentally friendly products. Be sure to try the George Howell mocha frappe and the fomu smoothie.

Blackbird Doughnuts

Blackbird Doughnuts offerings are prepared fresh daily in the South End and delivered to locations throughout Boston. Jonquil’s Cafe and Bakery is known for its inventive drinks and desserts, which makes sense once you learn that owner Fred Csibi is a scientist-turned-baker. From a geometric apple–shaped cake to an autumn leaf–inspired pastry, Jonquil’s serves an assortment of desserts you won’t find anywhere else. Wash down your dessert with one of the specialty drinks, like the flora tea, or the matcha rose latté.

Levain Bakery

Levain Bakery, a new addition to Newbury Street, is famous for its chocolate chip walnut cookies. Founded by triathletes and competitive swimmers Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald, the bakery opened in 1995 in New York City and quickly emerged as a neighborhood favorite, with lines trailing down 74th Street commonplace. Today, it has eight locations across the country. Stop by the Boston store to try a dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie, a banana chocolate chip loaf cake, or the cinnamon butter brioche, or feast on one of the seasonal specials, like the fall chocolate chunk cookie or the pumpkin ginger spice bread. The treats are also available for pickup or delivery here.

This Parisian gelato shop serves up delicious gelato, macarons, crêpes, and waffles. The chain—with 200 locations across the world—is famous for its rose-shaped gelato. Customers can select a seemingly unlimited number of flavors to be added as “petals” to their cone, and can opt to add a macaron to top it all off. For vegan dessert lovers, Amorino’s offers a range of nondairy sorbet options.

Taiyaki NYC – Boston

The literal translation of “taiyaki” is “fried fish,” but “tai” is also associated with luck, prosperity, and happiness. Inspired by Japanese food culture, Taiyaki NYC offers delicious soft-serve ice cream in a fish-shaped waffle cone with red bean paste or custard fillings, topped with mini mochi rice cakes and a wafer stick.

Modern Pastry

Call it the war of the cannolis: people who visit the North End often end their visit with a stop at either Modern Pastry or Mike’s Pastry for a crisp cannoli stuffed with sweet ricotta. We’re recommending Modern, which has served Italian and American pastries for over 90 years. The family-owned institution sells cakes, pies, tarts, cookies, and torrones. Customers can also build their own cannolis by choosing a custom shell, fillings, and toppings. There is a second location, too, in Medford.
