10 Summer Student Discounts You’ll Love
Bargains on summer fun in and around Boston
Looking to explore Boston on a budget this summer? Did you know that simply by showing your Terrier card, you’re entitled to all kinds of discounts for events and sites in and around the city?
Whether you want to hit the beach, enjoy some fine dining, or cheer on the Boston Red Sox, we’ve got you covered. To celebrate the season, BU Today has compiled a list of 10 student discounts to take advantage of before Labor Day.
Cape Ann Whale Watch
415 Main St., Gloucester, Mass.
What better way to spend a summer day than whale watching off the coast of Massachusetts? Head to North Station and take the Newburyport/Rockport train to Gloucester for a discounted Cape Ann Whale Watch excursion. Your Terrier Card entitles you to $5 off the regular adult price of $48. Whale watches typically last three to five hours, depending on how close the whales are. Boats leave at 10 am weekdays, 8:30 am and 1:30 pm weekends, until July 1, then at 8:30 am and 1 pm daily through Labor Day.
Boston Harbor Ferry Tickets
66 Long Wharf, Boston
An island vacation is closer than you might think. Explore the Boston Harbor islands for just $14.95—$5 off the regular adult fare with your student ID for a round-trip ferry ticket. The ferries depart from Long Wharf to either Georges Island or Spectacle Island. Find a schedule and directions here.
Red Sox Tickets
Fenway Park, 4 Yawkey Way, Boston
Nothing says summer in Boston like a baseball game at Fenway Park. But MLB games are expensive, so go to the Red Sox website, register for the student discount, #Student9s, and you’ll get a text on game day with a link to buy discounted $9 standing-room tickets.
Fire+Ice
205 Berkeley St., Boston
At this popular restaurant near Copley Square and Newbury Street, customers design their own meal. You fill up your bowl with fresh ingredients, head to the sauce bar and the flavor finishes bar for spices and herbs, and then bring it to the circular grill and watch the chefs create a magical meal. On Monday nights the restaurant offers a special student dinner deal (valid ID required): for just $10.99 ($10 off the fixed price), you can create your own stir-fry meal.
La Famiglia Giorgio’s
112 Salem St., Boston
Refuel after roaming around the North End with a meal at La Famiglia Giorgio’s, which offers Terrier Card holders (and BU staff) a 20 percent discount. This family-run Italian restaurant is known for its welcoming atmosphere and large portions.
Skywalk Observatory
Prudential Center, 800 Boylston St., Boston
Use your BU ID to get $4 off admission to the Skywalk Observatory atop the Prudential Center. It offers stunning 360 degree views of Boston and beyond. Purchase tickets at the Prudential Arcade Skywalk Observatory Kiosk, open daily from 10 am to 10 pm, seven days a week.
UBurger
636 Beacon St., Boston
Stop by the Kenmore Square Uburger between 3 and 7 pm Sunday through Thursday for student specials (they change daily). If it’s a nice day, grab your grub and head down to the Esplanade for a summer picnic.
Freedom Trail Tour
Boston Visitor Information Center, Boston Common, 139 Tremont St., Boston
Spend a day touring some of Boston’s most important historic sites. The 2.5-mile route begins at the Boston Common, takes in 16 points of interest, among them the Old North Church and Paul Revere’s house, and ends in Charlestown at the USS Constitution and the Bunker Hill Monument. Guides, costumed in 18th-century garb, regale visitors with stories about Boston’s colonial past. The Freedom Trail Foundation offers a $10 tour deal for students, but be sure to book in advance.
Summer Blockbusters
AMC Loews Boston Common 19, 175 Tremont St., Boston
Regal Fenway Stadium 13, 201 Brookline Ave., Boston
Summer is synonymous with Hollywood blockbusters, and there are plenty debuting in the coming weeks (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hits screens June 22). Two theaters near campus—AMC Loews Boston Common 19 and Regal Fenway Stadium 13—offer a discount when purchasing tickets if you show your ID. AMC discounts can be applied only after 4 pm.
John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
220 Morrissey Boulevard, Columbia Point, Boston
The Kennedy Library and Museum, with breathtaking views of Boston Harbor, offers a fascinating glimpse of the nation’s 35th president and his wife, Jacqueline. Visitors can see a replica of JFK’s White House Oval Office, as well as permanent and special exhibits. And BU students pay just $6 with their Terrier Card. After you’re done, stroll along the Boston HarborWalk, the 43-mile park that runs along the Boston shoreline from Dorchester to East Boston.
