Each Wednesday evening throughout the summer, the tranquil Italianate courtyard of the Boston Public Library’s McKim Building in Copley Square is transformed into a magical backdrop for concerts by local artists in a range of genres. This evening’s concert features a performance by singer-songwriter Brandon Diaz.
Diaz, a Berklee College of Music student and an accomplished vocalist, began singing professionally at age eight. By the time he was 11, the Ashburn, Va., native was performing the national anthem at Washington Nationals and Washington Capitals games, and at 16 he landed a gig on NBC’s hit reality show The Voice. Diaz now performs solo shows as a vocalist, pianist, and guitarist and is frontman of the soul funk fusion band Brandon Diaz ’N Soul.
Tonight’s concert is part of the BPL Concerts in the Courtyard series, a twice-weekly free concert program that runs from June through August. The hour-long concerts are held each Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 12:30 p.m. Upcoming performances include Panamanian saxophonist Samuel Batista on Wednesday, July 12, and pianist-composer Joel LaRue Smith on Friday, July 21.
On Fridays, visitors can purchase refreshments at the BPL’s Courtyard Restaurant, open Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Find a full list of afternoon tea items here.
Brandon Diaz performs tonight, Wednesday, July 5, at 6 p.m., in the BPL McKim Building Courtyard, 700 Bolyston St., Copley Square. Admission is free and open to the public. Find a schedule of performances here. In case of rain, concerts will be held in the recently renovated Rabb Hall. Take any MBTA Green Line trolley to Copley Square.
