  1. Interesting article and study. In the hope that somehow this will make its way to the scientists, I would like to raise a question.

By all accounts I am a little overweight, however my weight will not change no matter what.
But the more interesting thing is that I can work very happily in cold temperatures and even as low as -15C out walking in the snow with relatively thin clothes and a single layer at that is sufficient to keep me just warm.

If I add expertise to my days routine after about 2pm, I cannot sleep as my body retains far too much heat.
In fact my wife often remarks it is I who keep both of us warm.

So my question is, could it be that for some reason my body’s fat is not the white fat that I have been trying to get rid of, but brown fat which is more useful.
As a child I was often nagged for being naked in the snow. You will be relieved to know that I keep my clothes on now !

There are two points which may be useful to note, one I have as much body hair as a dog, well almost, but equally when I get cold it is often a surface degradation in temperature but not much more than a few millimeters.

Of course this may not be interesting or useful to you, but if it is, please contact me.
    Kindest regards.
    Mark.

  2. Mark, watch your Thyroid levels as well. I was like that as a child and teen and developed Thyroid cancer. I have been overweight since my early twenties. Will be following the brown fat

  3. Fascinating. I am not a biologist, but may I ask a simple (perhaps stupid) question. The article mentions that one of the groups of mice under experiment was treated with “a drug called CL-316,243 that mimics the body’s response to cold”. Wouldn’t it be so much easier to simply subject these mice to cold instead?
