  1. “Prior to digging into a meal of fresh fruit, blueberry and cranberry scones, Vermont cheddar and caramelized onion quiche, and Applewood-smoked bacon, Rev. Robert Allan Hill, dean of Marsh Chapel, will lead the room in prayer.”

I’m sorry, but I thought we were a secular university?

    1. There is a difference between being secular and being open to all (or none) religious convictions. The latter has been BU’s stance from its founding as a Methodist college (with a School of Theology still church-related). The Chapel sits at the center of the Plaza as a symbol of that purpose with a University Chaplain and staff, plus other Associates from various traditions. My wife and I served as Associate Chaplains from 1959 to 1963. Small additional note: there is a long tradition of Senior Breakfasts. In my time as undergraduate (1955), the Breakfast was held outdoors on the Plaza.

      1. What about the fact that in the US the title ‘Reverend’ almost exclusively refers to those of Christian clergy? Surely any prayer that includes a reference to or a mention of a god/God goes against BU being secular.
