Head to Revere for rides, games, and food

What would summer be without taking in at least one carnival? One of the Boston area’s most famous, the Revere Beach Carnival, is currently under way, through Sunday, June 23—and you can get there by T. Even better, if you go tonight, you’ll get a discount. A promotion called “Wicked Wednesday” allows visitors to pay a $5 admission fee and just $1 for each ride.
The Revere Beach Carnival is quintessential Americana—amusement park rides (among this year’s featured rides is an all-new EXPO wheel), a petting zoo, arcade games (yes, there are plenty of opportunities to win a stuffed animal), and carnival food, including fried dough and cotton candy.
Revere Beach is the oldest public beach in America, and at just four miles north of Boston, it’s a quick trip on the Blue Line. While you’re there, visit the justly famous Kelly’s Roast Beef, a Revere institution noted for its thinly sliced roast beef sandwiches, served on a grilled bun with barbecue sauce. (Noncarnivores can order Kelly’s equally impressive clam or scallop roll.) If you get to the carnival during the day, make sure to bring a towel and your swimsuit. And don’t forget the sunscreen.
The Revere Beach Carnival runs through Sunday, June 23, at the bandstand at Revere Beach, Ocean Boulevard, Revere, Mass. To get there by public transportation, take an MBTA Blue Line train to the Revere or Wonderland stop. Hours: Monday to Thursday, 5 to 10 p.m. or 11 p.m., weather permitting; Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 1 to 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. Prices: On Wednesday, visitors pay a $5 admission fee and each ride is just $1. Visitors can also purchase a $20 discount coupon for unlimited rides on Thursday.
