Classic Entertainment for the Lazy Summer Months

In a season when “wind and strings” can refer to summer storms and tennis rackets, the Boston Public Library offers something a little more refined with today’s chamber music performance in its Concert in the Courtyard series.
These winds and strings belong to the 13-year-old Amaryllis Chamber Ensemble. The Boston group, which performs both standard chamber repertoire and lesser-known classical works, as well as music by contemporary composers, has earned praise for being, as one reviewer notes, “superb musical masters of their instruments.” They are veterans of concert series at Harvard, MIT, and numerous other greater Boston venues, including three First Night Boston performances. Amaryllis took its name from an eponymous composition by group member and flutist Bonnie Cochran.
The Amaryllis Chamber Ensemble free public concert starts at 12:30 p.m. in the courtyard of the Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston St., Copley Square Rain location is the library’s Rabb Lecture Hall.
