There are 4 comments on BU Now Offers Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Certificate

  1. For real? I deduce that the “Gender” and “Sexuality” components of this course of study are focused on females…..what about “Men’s Studies” incorporating foci on gender and sexuality? Or what about just studying all people? Oh. A university of BU’s stature can’t do that because it is not sufficiently PC . Why is there a certificate instead of just offering these courses?

  2. As a recent alum pursuing women’s studies in my graduate work, I am so glad to see BU has added a graduate certificate program. A great and important addition!

  3. Thank you to BU Today for the great piece on the WGS Program’s new Graduate Certificate. We believe the Certificate will offer a valuable interdisciplinary augment to the degree programs of graduate students. I would like to correct one potential misinterpretation: The WGS minor program was not instituted two years ago; it has been offered at BU since the 1970’s. The program revised its curriculum two years ago, in part, two more fully incorporate the social and natural sciences in an interdisciplinary study of women, gender, and sexuality. Our new graduate program will seek to do the same. Incidentally, our first event in the new Graduate Program’s Symposium Series will be held tomorrow from 12-1:30 in the Center for Gender, Sexuality, and Activism. Patricia Stuelke will be speaking about her nationally recognized dissertation under the title “The Sex Wars and the Politics of Affective Solidarity.”
