We All Scream for Ice Cream
Annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl starts today at City Hall Plaza
Kicking off Boston’s unofficial start to summer, the 29th annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl will be held June 7, 8, and 9 at City Hall Plaza.
The nation’s largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival serves up cold, creamy desserts from nine of the country’s top ice cream makers, such as Häagen-Dazs, Baskin-Robbins, Edy’s, and Ben and Jerry’s, to raise money for the Jimmy Fund, which supports cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Celebrating its 29th year in 2011, the Scooper Bowl is now a three-day event that dishes out 10 tons of ice cream to nearly 50,000 sweet tooths from across the nation. In addition to ice cream, there will be sorbet, frozen yogurt, live music, and sponsor giveaways. Over the past 28 years, the Scooper Bowl has raised more than $2.9 million for cancer research and patient care at Boston’s world-renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. All the ice cream, scoopers, products, and labor are donated by the participating ice cream companies.
Tickets are $8 for adults (ages 10 and up), $4 for children (ages 3 to 9), and free for children under 3. A $15 Scooper Pass allows three entrances to the festival. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. from Tuesday, June 7, through Thursday, June 9, at Boston’s City Hall Plaza. To get there via the T, take the Green Line to Government Center.
