Tweet for ASB
Volunteers asked to share stories
This past weekend, students headed to Nashville, New Orleans, Puerto Rico, Omaha, and many other places to spend their time off making a difference with Alternative Spring Break. If you’re among them, BU Today wants to hear from you.
Please send tweets and twitpics to hashtag #BUASB11, and they will show up in the CoverItLive player above during spring break. Also, for the first time this spring break, BUniverse, BU’s community video repository, is posting students’ videos of their ASB experiences. BUniverse is asking volunteers to submit videos chronicling their sign-up, travel, site work, or post-trip reflections. Students can upload their videos to BUniverse up to a week after returning, and should use the tag “ASB2011.”
All students who submit videos will be entered in a random drawing for an iPad and other prizes.
“We hope to capture moments from every group that will inspire others to get involved,” says Nelia Ponte, director of BUniverse and content management at BU. “BUniverse is meant to broadcast students’ messages and archive their experiences.”
Ponte says the videos don’t have to be fancy and can be shot on the go with an iPhone, a flip cam, or a video camera.
Alternative Spring Break is run by BU’s Community Service Center, which hopes that volunteers will learn about social issues, develop leadership skills, and form strong bonds with trip mates.
