Police Accreditation Examiners Arrive Next Week
BUPD policies, procedures, operations, and facilities to undergo voluntary scrutiny
A team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission is scheduled to arrive on campus on Tuesday, May 10, to begin examining various aspects of the Boston University Police Department’s policies, procedures, operations, and facilities.
Verification by the assessment team that the department meets the commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain state accreditation. It consists of a self-initiated evaluation process, which police departments strive to meet and maintain using standards that have been established for the profession, by the profession.
The Massachusetts Police Accreditation program consists of 257 mandatory standards and 125 optional standards. To achieve accreditation status, a department must meet all applicable mandatory standards as well as 60 percent of the optional standards.
