There is 1 comment on Spies Among Us

  1. Why refer to “Russian xenophobia” ? Other states have been spying on Russia and on USA for years – France and Israel, for example, as well as the British, the Chinese. I think the writer is confusing prudence and realism with something particular to one country but not another. Did we not help al-Qaeda and Osama in the 1980s?

The interviewer obviously omitted A LOT of historical evidence of Russian “xenophilism”. There have been a lot of non-Russians heading Russia and serving in top ministerial jobs.

    For starters, how about:

    1700-1917

    P. Shafirov
    A. Osterman
    Catherine I
    Catherine II
    A. Czartoryski
    K. Nesselrode
    I. Kapodistrias

    1917-1991

    L. Trotsky
    I. Sverdlov
    H. Yagoda
    J. Stalin
    S. Ordzhonikidze
    F. Dzerzhinsky
    L. Beria
    A. Mikoyan
    L. Kaganovich
    Shevarnadze

    1992-2010

    Nurgaliev
    Primakov
    Fradkov
    Shoigu
