Watch the slide show above for gavel-to-gavel coverage of an event that has made many altruistic summer efforts possible.
Elizabeth Rossi (LAW’11) is spending the summer in Phnom Penh working in the Children’s Justice Unit of Legal Aid of Cambodia, an organization that provides free legal services to Cambodia’s poor in civil and criminal cases. Adam Peltz (LAW’11) is at the Legal Resources Centre of Ghana. Jenny Rossman (LAW’10) is interning at the U.S. Attorney’s Office right here in Boston, and Adrienne Bossi (LAW’10) also is staying close to home, at the Conservation Law Foundation on Beacon Hill. Elizabeth Hugetz (LAW’11) has traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, to assist the United Nations Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking.
These are just some of the internships taken on by 63 BU law students this summer, made possible by funding from the Boston University School of Law Public Interest Project (PIP), which provides grants to students taking unpaid summer positions with nonprofit, public interest, or government organizations.
The goal of PIP, a student-run organization formed in 1984, is to foster a commitment to pro bono work and community service among law students, whether they eventually work in the public or the private sector.
One major source of funding for the project is a fun local event that took place in April, when LAW hosted its 17th annual PIP auction gala, raising more than $51,000 for legal outreach around the globe.
