There are 10 comments on Housing, the Big Picture

  1. BU Today, you need to work on your statistical labeling! As it stands, it looks as if 37% of all freshmen live on campus, where I assume you mean that 37% of the students who live on campus are freshmen. A better title would be Distribution of Students Living on Campus, By Year.

  2. The older dorms should be renovated as it is important to maintain facilities and have some degree of parity. While moving my child into West campus it was difficult to glance out at the gleaming new building while dealing with dirty carpet, broken storage doors, and furniture in poor condition. Also, an elevator was out of service—not a great impression for the start of the school year. Clean, well maintained facilities should be the norm. Students must respect these properties as well and keep rooms in good condition for the next person.

  3. The prices for housing in the Student Village I and II are ridiculous. I have heard that the bedrooms are not as big as expected, which leads me to wonder why I should pay thousands of dollars extra for one. I wish BU had more single rooms around the campus, but not apartment-style. I want a single in an air-conditioned building with only a few people to a bathroom that is not in either of the Student Village Buildings. I wish 1019 Commonwealth Avenue had some singles suite-style rather than all doubles.

  4. While clearly not all housing options can be renovated immediately, it is frustrating to be paying the expensive base rate of housing and have my child in surroundings that are sometimes subpar. Thew new StuV residences are absolutely gorgeous, but we are currently struggling to pay the tuition and housing basics and cannot afford the additional premium pricetag of the new residences…yet Warren, HoJo and Myles where I have my experience, do leave much to be desired for the hefty on-campus living pricetag.

  5. ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION! Students living in Stu V2 beware. I moved my daughter in last weekend to the beautiful new Stu V2. We love it! However, she called last night and told me that someone came into her apartment yesterday and stole a cell phone, i-pod, and other items in the middle of the afternoon while she and another roomate were in their bedrooms in the apartment. They heard noises in the living room area such as rushing about and doors closing, but both girls assumed it was their other roommates coming and going. They’ve been robbed in broad daylight whilst home! Police have been notified. Please keep your apartment doors locked at all times. Stu V2 is beautiful and may seem like you are living in la la land, but theives are taking advanatage of your false sense of security because everything looks so nice, peaceful, clean, and calm. Don’t be fooled! LOCK YOUR DOORS AT ALL TIMES. KEEP YOUR KEYES WITH YOU EVEN IF YOU ARE RUNNING DOWN THE HALL FOR JUST A MINUTE. The thief may be an outsider, an employee, or a fellow student. There is no way of knowing at this point. Be careful and enjoy your new digs!
