Exploring the Milky Way
On trivia night, answers are pondered while tunes play

Put on your thinking cap tonight and visit the Milky Way Lounge in new Jamaica Plain Brewery digs for Stump Trivia at 9 p.m. It’s for a 21+ crowd and it’s free.
Questions jump on topics such as entertainment, science, history, and politics. Clues are announced and participants brainstorm answers while listening to music. Teams are often made up of friends, but smart strangers (also known as ringers) are welcome. Contenders win T-shirts and gift cards, but the real prize more often is great company and a fun scene.
To fuel the brain while competing, contestants can order from adjoining restaurant Bella Luna; dinner — pub classics, gourmet pizzas, and upscale entrees — is served until 10 p.m. Mixed drinks and variety of beers are available at the bar.
Much of the Monday night crowd harkens back to the old location on Centre Street, where the Milky Way had candlepin lanes and Monday was a big bowling night. Candlepin retains something of a cult New England following, and as this spillover crowd proves, the game makes for enduring friendships among young professionals and college seniors as well as their parents.
Star lamps, brightly colored walls, local art, and hand-painted plates are all part of the fun, funky décor. And although the Milky Way Lounge caters to a 21+ crowd at night, with karaoke and dancing as well as trivia, everyone can enjoy the fun atmosphere and incredible food during the day.
Stump Trivia takes place tonight, June 22, at 9 p.m. at the Milky Way Lounge, 280 Amory St., Jamaica Plain, 617-524-3740. Admission is free; must be 21+.
Getting There: Take the Orange Line train to Stony Brook Station. Exiting the station, turn left and walk up Boylston Street to the first stoplight and take a right onto Amory Street. The Brewery complex is 1/2 mile on the left. Complimentary parking is available on the Amory Street side of the Brewery complex; do not park in the 15-minute spots next to Amory Street.
