Israeli ambassador to the UN will speak at Hillel tonight
Gabriela Shalev became the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations on September 3, 2008, the first woman to hold the post. Tonight, she will speak at BU’s Florence and Chafetz Hillel House about her position and how Israel engages in the complex environment of the UN. Shalev is Israel’s 14th permanent representative to the UN.
After being admitted to the Israeli bar in 1968, Shalev became chief legal editor of the Judgments of the Supreme Court of Israel, where she served until 1980. An expert on contract law and comparative law, she has held a variety of positions in the public and private sectors. She was a professor of law at Hebrew University in Jerusalem from 1964 to 2002 and has been a visiting professor of contract law and comparative law in universities in the United States, Europe, and Canada.
Shalev’s talk, Israel Among Nations: A Perspective from the United Nations, is hosted by the Elie Wiesel Center for Judaic Studies and the BU School of Law.
Ambassador Gabriela Shalev speaks tonight at 7 p.m. at the Florence and Chafetz Hillel House, 213 Bay State Road. Admission is free and open to the public.
