BU Senior Finishes Eighth in 5,000m Run at NCAA championship
Walkonen captures All-America honors

Boston University’s Andrea Walkonen(SAR’09) earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the women’s5,000-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 13 at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium at Texas A&M. Walkonen posted amark of 16:03.04, breaking the school record she set last month atthe America East Championship.
Senior Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech won the race in 15:51.14,finishing seven seconds ahead of runner-up Frances Koons, a senior atVillanova.
Walkonen earned All-America honors for the second time in hersenior campaign. The Jaffrey, N.H., native was an All-American in crosscountry this fall, after finishing 21st at the NCAA Championship inNovember.
This marks the fourth straight track and field championshipthat saw a Terrier earn All-America honors. Marisa Ryan (CAS’07, MED’10) and Tahari James (SAR’09) were each named All-Americans at both the indoor and outdoor championships last year.
