$2 Million Donation Supports Creative Writing Program
Board of Overseers vice chair Robert Hildreth gives BU its fifth major gift in 90 days
Philanthropist Robert J. Hildreth, vice chair of Boston University’s Board of Overseers, has donated $2 million to the Arts & Sciences Creative Writing Program.
Half of the $2 million will benefit the Robert Pinsky Global Fellowship Fund in Creative Writing, which will send students in the Creative Writing Program to international destinations as a capstone experience for their graduate work.
The other half of Hildreth’s gift will provide funding for the Leslie Epstein International Visiting Professorship, which will host eminent international writers to mentor students in the Creative Writing Program.
“Bob Hildreth’s generous donation reflects his much appreciated support of the arts at BU and his desire to reinforce the global exchange of ideas among faculty and students,” says President Robert A. Brown. “We are very grateful for his gift, which elevates the University’s commitment to engagement with the world, while acknowledging the long-standing and remarkable contributions of outstanding faculty.”
Hildreth’s donation marks the fifth major gift received by Boston University in the past three months. More than $18 million has been raised, including $10.5 million to the School of Medicine from an anonymous alum.
Hildreth has issued a challenge to alumni to raise an additional $1 million.
