Too Hot to Handle?
The Chinese Student Association tested its limits with Spicy Food Night earlier this month
On Saturday, March 1, the BU Chinese Students Association hosted Spicy Food Night in the GSU.
Seven three-person teams were timed to see how fast they could eat the Tabasco- and wasabi-doused food. Drinking water was not allowed and resulted in disqualification. While the teams chowed down, their competitors were allowed to heckle them.
After the winning team was declared, each of its three members competed individually for prizes. The final challenge consisted of eating different types of Chinese hot peppers.
“The competition was stiff, and I’m pretty sure there were people faster than me who didn’t make it to the final round,” said first-place winner Rahul Ahuja (ENG’09). “I’ll say I got a little lucky.” In second place was Gabriel Siew Yoi Tye (SAR’08), and in third was Michael Chin (ENG’09), who admits the competition was tough: “I saw a few guys not even chewing, just swallowing.”
The winners received gift certificates to Sichuan Garden, and their pictures were posted on the CSA Web site.
Fortunately, Rolaids were provided.
