Cheap seats to Huntington production on sale for Friday
Wherefore art good, cheap theater seats, you ask? The Huntington Theatre Company has the answer, with College Night on Friday, October 3, at 8 p.m. Tickets to see How Shakespeare Won the West, with a post-show party and a backstage tour — plus free food — are $15, using the promo code COLLEGE. The play is running at the BU Theatre.
But the Huntington’s low-cost options aren’t over — on Saturday, October 4, at 4 p.m., playwright Richard Nelson, author of HowShakespeare Won the West, will take the BU Theatre stage with historian Doris KearnsGoodwin to discuss Abraham Lincoln’s love of Shakespeare’s works. This one’s free.
How Shakespeare Won the West is world premiere comedy about an adventurous troupe of actors who head West to seek fame and fortune during the California gold rush. While waiting to cross the Missouri River, they encounter an Illinois lawyer named Abe with a deep love of Shakespeare. Nelson’s play is based on actual accounts — President Lincoln cited Shakespeare as among his favorite authors.
Goodwin is a renowned presidential historian and author of numerous books, including Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. Nelson received an Olivier Award for his play Goodnight Children Everywhere, a Tony Award for James Joyce’s The Dead, and an OBIE Award for The Vienna Notes.
The Huntington Theatre Company’s production of How Shakespeare Won the West, directed by Jonathan Moscone, plays at the BU Theatre, 264 Huntington Ave., Boston, through October 5, 2008.
