Men’s Crew Claims Bill Cup Over Dartmouth, Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – For the third consecutive year, Boston University men’s crew hoisted the Bill Cup, defeating Rutgers and Dartmouth on Saturday, April 19. Three other Terrier boats won their races to complement the varsity’s victory.

The varsity eight earned the trophy for the 13th time in the cup’s history as the Terriers crossed the finish line in 5:55.8, nearly seven seconds ahead of Rutgers (6:02.3) and 11 seconds in front of Dartmouth (6:06.8).

The second varsity defeated Dartmouth by 13 seconds, while both 2V/3V 4+ boats finished ahead of Rutgers and the 2F "A" coxed four claimed a 10-second win over Dartmouth. The BU freshman eight placed second in its race.

BU returns to the water next weekend, vying for the Lusins and Conlan cups with Columbia and Syracuse on Saturday, April 26 in Liverpool, N.Y.

Golf Wins Jack Leaman Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Boston University golf team improved four spots from the first round to take top honors at the Jack Leaman Women’s Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon in South Hadley, Mass. The Terriers shot a 333 on day two to claim first place with a two-day total of 690. Kaitlyn Mardeusz finished third overall, shooting a 165.

Mardeusz improved by seven strokes on day two to improve her final positioning after shooting an 86 on day one, she carded a 79 on day two to finished with 165. Ana Johnson also had a standout afternoon, shooting a 79 on day two to finish tied for seventh with a two-day total of 169. Lauren Stong finished in a tie for 22nd (89-88–177) and she was followed by Allison Hamilton in 28th (92-87–179) and Dana DeStefano (92-95–187).

On Friday, May 2 BU will return to action to defend its America East championship in Simsbury, Conn. The three-day event will conclude on Sunday, May 4.

No. 9/11 Lacrosse Completes Perfect America East Season

BALTIMORE, Md. – Bolstered by a five-goal performance from junior Sarah Dalton, the No. 9/11 Boston University lacrosse team capped its first perfect America East season in three years with a 14-5 victory at UMBC on Saturday afternoon. The victory improves the Terriers’ record to 13-2 – including a 6-0 conference mark – and extends their win streak to 10 games.

BU never trailed in the contest, scoring the game’s first five goals before outscoring the Retrievers 7-1 in the second half. UMBC fell to 4-12 overall and 2-4 in league play.

The Terriers reeled off eight straight goals at one point, beginning with a tally by sophomore McKinley Curro with six seconds left in the first half to give BU a 7-4 lead entering the break.

Curro tallied three goals and an assist, while senior co-captain Molly Collins recorded one goal and a career-best three assists. Sophomore Traci Landy notched a goal and two helpers and classmate Xan Weitzel contributed a goal and an assist. Senior co-captain Lauren Morton, junior Steph Walker and sophomore Erica Baumgartner added a goal apiece.

Sophomore Rachel Klein made nine saves and kept the Retrievers scoreless for nearly 28 minutes after the home team cut its deficit to 6-4 in the final minute of the first half.

UMBC was paced by senior Ali Levendusky, who registered two goals and an assist. Sophomore Kate Quick made 14 saves in a solid losing effort in goal.

BU will host the America East Championship on April 25 & 27 at Nickerson Field. The top-seeded Terriers will face fourth-seeded Albany in the semifinals on Friday, while No. 2-seeded Vermont will match up with third-seeded New Hampshire.

The Terriers will head to Hanover, N.H., for their regular-season finale on Wednesday (April 23) against Dartmouth.
