MED Prof Elected Vice Chair of AAO Council
MED’s Jean Ramsey is the newly elected vice chair of the Council of the American Academy of Ophthalmology

Jean Ramsey (MED’90) was recently chosen as the vice chair of the Council of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). Ramsey, a School of Medicine associate professor of ophthalmology and pediatrics and director of the Pediatric Ophthalmology Service at Boston Medical Center, began her two-year term in January.
The council, which comprises professionals representing each state and Puerto Rico, is an advisory board to the AAO board of trustees.
Ramsey has served in various leadership positions on the council for the past seven years and hopes her new role will allow her to be an advocate for ophthalmology patients and the profession. “By having this position,” Ramsey says, “I’ll be able to play an important role and be able to adequately reflect the ideas and concerns of ophthalmologists around the country concerning their patients and our profession.”
Ramsey is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She was recently appointed MED assistant dean of alumni affairs.
