Get to Know the Night Sky
Take a free look, or two, from the BU observatory

If your plans for summer stargazing are stymied by city lights, Boston University has the answer for you and other urban astronomy buffs. Every Wednesday, weather permitting, the BU rooftop observatory holds its public Open Night.
Beginning at 8:30 p.m., the one-hour sessions include a brief talk by Quinn Sykes, the observatory curator from the astronomy department at the College of Arts and Sciences, who will describe the celestial wonders on display that night. Then, check out the moon, stars, and planets through the observatory’s telescopes. Admission is free.
Keep in mind that if it’s overcast, hazy, or rainy, Open Night will be canceled, so check in at 617-353-2630 no more than two hours before the scheduled start time. The observatory is at 725 Commonwealth Ave., right above the College of Arts and Sciences astronomy department. The stairwell to the observatory is on the fifth floor, next to room 520.
