Dog Meets God, with Relish
Jesus and the Hot Dog root for the home team at Agganis in this weekend's Hockey East playoffs
The Boston University men’s ice hockey team has been around for 90 years, and more than a few home-ice icons have emerged over the decades: Rhett the Terrier, Coach Jack Parker (SMG’68, Hon.’97), and Sasquatch are just a few. Now, the next generation of superfans has arrived, and they’re aiming to establish a long-term presence at Agganis Arena. Meet Jesus and the Hot Dog.
The men behind the costumes, Brian Fadem (COM’10), aka the Hot Dog, and Ross Lichtenberg (SAR’10), aka Jesus, hope to make their mark on Terrier sports with energy, creativity, and true sports zealotry. They’re regulars at men’s hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s lacrosse games and rarely miss a match, often putting in 12 or more hours of game time a week. And they’re getting results: the women’s basketball team is undefeated at the Case Center this season. “They’re definitely our lucky charms,” says point guard Christine Kinneary (CAS’09).
Jesus and the Hot Dog have a big weekend coming up: the men’s hockey team meets UMass-Lowell in the Hockey East quarterfinals at Agganis tonight, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. The best-of-three series continues on Saturday, March 15, at 7 p.m. at Agganis, and if necessary, on Sunday, March 16, also at Agganis at 7 p.m.
