CFA Alum to Head St. Louis Symphony Orchestra
Fred Bronstein (CFA’78) has been tapped to become the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s president and executive director.
After five years as president and CEO of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Fred Bronstein (CFA’78) will return to St. Louis, where he first developed a passion for orchestras. Bronstein, a member of BU’s Board of Overseers, will become the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s president and executive director in March.
Bronstein began his orchestral career in St. Louis in 1995 as a fellow with the American Symphony Orchestra League. “From that very moment, I knew that I wanted to work with orchestras,” he says.
Bronstein, who received a College of Fine Arts Distinguished Alumni Award in 1995, says he “could not have written something more desirable” than his new job description in St. Louis.
He took over at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) in July 2002 and during his tenure improved the orchestra’s fiscal stability with four consecutive years of balanced budgets. Other achievements include forming a recording relationship with Hyperion Records and a partnership with Performance Today for the national broadcast of selected DSO performances.
“While there is always more to do, the Dallas Symphony is on very solid ground,” Bronstein says, “making this an ideal time to step away and begin this new adventure.”
