The BU Police Department crime log for June 16 – 27 is below.

12:00 AM 8011790 6/27/2008 Fri Bravo CREDIT CARD FRAUD UNDER $250 c266 S37B Open 173 BAY STATE RD 0301 All Other Locations UNKNOWN
Officers Rick Camillo and Antoine Ramos respond for a report of credit card fraud. Upon arrival they met with the victim who stated that sometime between 12:00 AM on 6/27/2008 and 12:35 AM on 6/29/2008, her ATM/debit checking account was accessed and that several unauthorized purchases were made to her account. The six unauthorized transaction charged to the victims account totaled $139.85. Victim provided a printout of the last twelve transactions made to her account which included information regarding the fraudulent activity. The victim could not furnish any information regarding the suspect or how the unauthorized activity occurred.

Officers Ron Gately and Vincent Noga were dispatched for a report of an individual attempting to break into one of the rooms. Upon arrival there were no individuals matching the description given and officers proceeded to check the entire length of the 2nd floor, checking locked doors and inspecting open rooms and bathrooms for the suspect. Officers William Donnellan and James Kotkowski arrived to assist and spoke with a B&G employee, who gave a description of the suspect and also stated that the display window of a vending machine on the 2nd floor was pushed in and that when he saw the suspect he was making a kicking motion at what appeared to be a door or a vending machine. The suspect is described as a black or Hispanic male, 5’ 7” tall, wearing a long sleeve blue warm up suit (shirt and pants) and a baseball cap of unknown color. Officers Donnellan and Kotkowski conducted a search of the outside of the building and did not see the suspect. Officers inspected the vending machine which had damage to the frame, but the window was still intact, and it was unknown if anything was missing from the machine. Officers checked all floors of the building for the suspect or any other damage. Other than the vending machine on the 2nd floor, no further damage or signs of B&E were noted.

Officers Rick Camillo and Antoine Ramos were dispatched for a motor vehicle hit and run accident. Upon arrival officers spoke to the victim who stated that sometime between 10:00 AM and 1:50 PM, a vehicle struck his Dodge Caravan while parked in the rear of the building. A check of the vehicle revealed two large scrapes on the left rear quarter panel and a broken left rear tail light.

Officer Tom Gaffney was dispatched for a past larceny report. Upon arrival he met the victims who stated that their check book was stolen from a room in the Chemistry Department. The victim stated that at 11:00 AM his bag had been turned over next to his desk and his check book was missing.

8:15 AM 8011619 6/26/2008 Thu Alpha LEAVE SCENE OF PROPERTY DAMAGE c90 S24 Open 25 BUICK ST All Other Locations PARKING LOT
Officer Tom Smith was flagged down by a party reporting a past hit and run with property damage. The victim stated that she parked her car in the parking garage at 8:15 AM. The victim further stated that when she returned to her car at 5:30 PM she noticed a dent and scrape that spanned her front left quarter panel to her driver’s side door. The victim was sure that this damage had not been there at 8:15 AM.

5:00 PM 8011572 6/25/2008 Wed Alpha MOTOR VEH, MALICIOUS DAMAGE TO c266 S28 Open 7 BUSWELL ST Public Property STREET
Officer Alex Ayochok responded for a report of a motor vehicle with a broken window. Upon arrival he observed a vehicle with the front passenger-side window was broken. Remains of the glass from the window were found on the front passenger seat, passenger side floor and outside of the vehicle on the sidewalk. The glove compartment was open and personal papers were found on the floor and seat. No further damage to the vehicle interior was found and the vehicle owner confirmed my observation. The victim stated that he parked his vehicle on 6/25/2008 at 5:00 PM and when he returned to the vehicle at on 6/26/2008 at 9:15 PM, he found the window smashed. The victim stated that nothing appeared stolen or missing.

Officer Paul Devlin was dispatched for a report of a past larceny. Upon arrival he met with the victim who stated that sometime between 6/15/2008 at 11:00 PM and 6/16/2008 at 7:00 AM, his Apple iPod was stolen from behind the front desk. The victim works the front desk for Hostelling International and stated that at various points throughout the night he stepped away from the desk. After discovering his iPod missing he searched around the desk area but was unable to locate the iPod. He further stated that the adapter cord which is also missing. The victim reports that his Apple iPod was valued at $367.00 and the adapter cord was valued at $20.00.

Officers Vincent Noga and Ron Gately met with the victim of the M/V break in. The victim stated that he parked his vehicle on 06/23/2008 at 9:00 PM. The victim reports that the suspect shattered the front driver’s side window and bent the metal next to the window just above the lower-left hand corner of the window frame. The victim reports that there were no items stolen and no other damage done to the vehicle. The victim stated that he left his GPS mount on his dash, but there was no GPS unit inside

Mugar Security Department responded to a report of a past larceny. The victim reports that at 2:33 PM she left her backpack unattended until 2:34 PM. The victim returned and took a nap until 3:05 PM putting her backpack on the floor next to her. When the victim awoke she discovered that her camera was missing. She left the building to call her friends to see if anyone had her camera, leaving her backpack unattended again. When she returned at 3:16 PM she discovered that her wallet was missing. The victim reports that her Sony Cybershot digital camera, valued at $550.00, 4gb memory card, valued at $40.00, Coach wallet, valued at $150.00, $10.00 cash, Bank of America debit card, BU ID and Taiwan driver’s license were taken.

4:45 PM 8011335 6/20/2008 Fri Bravo B&E NIGHTTIME FOR FELONY c266 S16 Open 650 BEACON ST Commercial OFFICE
Officers Rick Camillo and Antoine Ramos responded for a past B&E. On arrival they met with the reporting party, who stated that some time between 4:45 PM on 6/20/2008 and 8:45 AM on 6/23/2008, a fourth floor hallway door was pried open to gain access to the office suite. A check of the offices revealed that a Dell Laptop computer had been taken from the bottom drawer of a cabinet located in the rear office. The reporting party stated that it was unknown whether the cabinet where the computer was stored was locked or unlocked at the time the incident occurred. A check of the cabinet showed no signs of pry marks or forced opening. An examination of the door used by the suspect revealed cracks to the door and door frame. A check of the other businesses located on the fourth floor revealed pry marks to a storage door for DELSYS Company. Officers spoke to Product Development Manager, who stated that the damage to the door and door frame was new but an examination of the storage room revealed no missing property. The reporting party stated that the Dell laptop was valued at $399.00.

Officer Diane Smith met with the victim of a past larceny. The victim stated that she was in the 1st floor ladies room at 5:15 PM. She was removing items from her purse when her CA driver’s license fell on to the floor. The victim further stated that at first she was not sure she dropped her license and left the ladies room. She then returned to the ladies room and could not find her license.

1:40 AM 8011100 6/19/2008 Thu Alpha MOTOR VEH, MALICIOUS DAMAGE TO c266 S28 Open 46 MOUNTFORT ST Public Property STREET
Officer William Campanella was checking the area for further damaged motor vehicles (see incidents 8011098 and 8011101) when he observed a vehicle parked on the eastbound side of Mountfort St with the passenger side front window broken. The vehicle’s interior compartments appeared to have been opened and gone through. Officer Campanella met with the reporting party, who stated that he had heard glass shattering outside the building at 1:40 AM and looked out his window. He observed 2 males, the first was a Hispanic male, 5’8” to 5’10”, medium build, wearing baggy jeans, a white or gray or light colored t-shirt and a white or gray or light colored baseball cap with a flat rim. The only description of the second male was that he was wearing baggy jeans. The second male was going through the contents of another motor vehicle. While contacting the police the males left the area on foot in the direction of Beacon Street. The reporting party stated that he could only make an identification of the clothing but not the person based on lighting and distance from which he observed the males. A search of the area by other Boston University Police Unit was made for the suspects with negative results. Officer Campanella was unable to make contact with the owner of the vehicle at the time of this report. It was further undetermined if any of the contents of the vehicle had been taken.

Upon arrival he observed a vehicle parked on the westbound side of Mountfort St with the passenger side front window broken. Mugar Security Report took a report of a past larceny. The victim reports that he was on the 4th floor and left his cell phone unattended in a study cubicle. He left his bag unattended at 5:00 PM and discovered his cell phone was missing on his return at 5:02 PM. The victim reports that is Blackberry Pearl cell phone was valued at $300.00.

8:29 AM 8011034 6/18/2008 Wed Alpha TRESPASS c266 S120 Arrest 33 HARRY AGGANIS WAY Residential CONSTRUCTION SITE
Officers Alex Ayochok and Jack Struble responded to the construction site for a report of a homeless person found sleeping on the roof. Upon arrival officers met with the reporting party who stated that a construction worker had reported an unknown male had been found sleeping inside of a wooden crate, located on the 20th floor of the site. Officers were escorted to the 20th floor and met with the subject. During questioning the subject attempted to conceal his true identity by telling giving a false name. The subject was arrested for violating MGL c266/s120 Trespassing. The subject’s true identity was discovered during the booking process when his fingerprints were taken and submitted to the FBI via the AFIS System. The subject was further charged under MGL c268/s34A Furnishing false name to a Police Officer after arrest.

Officer Brandon Stone was dispatched for a report of a past vandalism. Upon arrival he met with B&G, who reported finding a parking meter broken, on the ground in front of 2 Cummington St. Upon closer observation, it was determined that the meter was broken off from its post in front of 5 Cummington St and dragged across the street. The City of Boston was notified that parking meter would be secured at the BUPD station until they could come take possession of it.

3:45 PM 8010886 6/13/2008 Fri Bravo B&E DAYTIME FOR FELONY c266 S18 Open 24 CUMMINGTON ST Academic OFFICE
Officer Dan DiGiovine was dispatched for a past B&E report. Upon arrival he met with the victim who stated that she left her office on 6/13/2008 at 3:45 PM and locked the office door. When she returned on 6/16/2008 at about 9:00 AM, she observed the office door was unlocked and slightly ajar. She stated she checked her office and noticed a new laptop computer was missing from under the desk where she had left it. There was no apparent damage to office door or lock. The victim reports that the Sony laptop computer was valued at $1400.

Officer Anicet Dybantsa was dispatched for a report of past larceny of a bicycle. Upon arrival he met the victim who stated that at 8:30 AM, he secured his mountain bike to the bike rack in the rear of the building with a bike lock. He further stated that the bike was still secure at 1:30 PM. When he returned at 8:00 PM, both his bicycle and his bike lock were gone. The victim reports that his Specialized Hard Rock mountain bike was valued at $450.00 and the Master Lock bike lock was valued at $25.00.
