The idea was to start a group that would sound like ’90s-era Chicago punk band Screeching Weasel, says Pat Breen (COM’08), guitarist of Female Trouble.
“When that failed, we kinda just kept going,” he says. “We’ve stuck together for so long by ignoring everyone who makes fun of us and playing really fast.”
Breen and vocalist Aaron Young (CAS’07) formed the indie band in fall 2006. They were later joined by guitarist Jack Ruf (CAS’09). Drums and bass are handled by Berklee students Dan Turner and Zane Bauer. Beyond Screeching Weasel, Breen says, the group’s influences include Josie and the Pussycats, Green Day, Chix Diggit, the Descendents, Digger, and Prince.
Their MySpace page describes the band’s sound as “all the worst parts of every Green Day song smashed together in a s–t sandwich.”
And apparently the frenetic fivesome has enough material for a picnic basket. “We’re currently recording songs that we’re releasing on our friend Colin Averill’s (CAS’08) record label, Fun Discs,” says Breen. “Our tentative release date is June.”
Female Trouble’s next gig is Wednesday, April 16, at O’Brien’s, [http://www.greatscottboston.com/obriens/] 3 Harvard Ave., Allston, with the Prozacs and Johnie 3.
