In the 1980s, Katie McDonough performed in Broadway and off-Broadway shows and appeared in such films as Desperately Seeking Susan and The Cotton Club. But when she decided she wanted a steadier career that would support a growing family, she left the acting life behind.

McDonough earned a postgraduate certificate in paralegal studies at Adelphi University and worked as a paralegal for Macmillan Publishing and Twentieth Century Fox.

Shortly after moving to Boston 10 years ago, she left the corporate world for what she considers a more rewarding setting: academia. “You feel like you’re working toward something, not just to make money,” she says. McDonough joined the administrative staff of the president’s office at Northeastern University, where she worked during the final years of Richard M. Freeland’s presidency.

On May 29, she joined Boston University’s Office of the President [https://www.bu.edu/president/] as an administrative assistant. “It’s really exciting to have a change in my life and be involved in the beginning of a presidency,” she says. “I look forward to seeing what President Brown has accomplished 10 years from now and to have been a part of it.”
