Name: Emily Cania
From: Potsdam, New York
School: College of Fine Arts
Major: Vocal performance
What convinced you to come to BU?
I attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Vocal Program in summer 2006, which inspired me to take a closer look at BU. I loved the professors at BUTI, and I wanted to study with them in college.
What makes you feel most excited about coming to college?
The freedom. I’m excited to be on my own, making my own choices, and defining my future.
What makes you feel most nervous about coming to college?
I’m from a very small town, so the change to a big city makes me a bit anxious.
What kinds of activities do you want to become involved in?
Since I’m a voice major, I’ll be involved in many music activities. I’m also interested in yoga and contemporary dance.
What is one of the goals of your first year at BU?
I want to establish a routine for myself that allows me the freedom to work to my potential and explore new options.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
This past year, I doubled as a senior in high school and a freshman vocal performance major at the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York–Potsdam.
What will be your first stop when you start exploring Boston?
A Boston Symphony Orchestra concert, followed closely by shopping!
How are you spending your summer vacation?
I’m working as a photo databaser for the photographer at St. Lawrence University.
