Even if you’re not really a tourist, sometimes it’s fun to act like one. And while Allston, Brighton, and Kenmore Square are all part of the “real" Boston, so are the Duck Tours, the Swan Boats, and Faneuil Hall.
The Swan Boats offer one of the city’s most peaceful rides, while the Duck Tour operators take pride in their tradition of quacking at pedestrians. Either is a great way to explore the city’s history, whether you want a quiet tour of the Public Gardens — the first botanical garden in the United States — or want to climb aboard amphibious vehicle that quacks its way through many of Boston’s neighborhoods.
Those who prefer to stay on dry land can see a lot on foot, too — stroll the walkways of Faneuil Hall, the “Cradle of Liberty” where George Washington celebrated the nation’s first birthday, for a mix of history, shopping, and snacking, or walk the Freedom Trail, the red brick path that links the sixteen historic sites between Boston Common and The Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown.
