Olympic runner Joan Benoit coached track at BU
Former women's track coach Joan Benoit won the gold medal in the first women's Olympic marathon.
Over the years Boston University has participated in the international games in many different ways. Joan Benoit, BU women’s track coach from 1981 to 1983 and three-time winner of the Boston Marathon, won the gold medal in the first women’s Olympic marathon, at the 1984 summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
