Howard Zinn Calls for Impeachment
WBUR broadcasts talk by professor emeritus
Howard Zinn, a professor emeritus of political science at Boston University, returned to BU on November 2 to initiate the Howard Zinn Lecture Series with a talk called Bringing Democracy Alive. In his lecture, Zinn pushes for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney and accuses the Bush administration of starting a “war of aggression” against Iraq. Zinn also calls on Americans to stop believing that the Bush administration has the people’s best interest in mind.
The historian and war critic is the author of 1980’s A People’s History of the United States, a book both lauded and derided for telling American history from the perspective of minorities, immigrants, laborers, and others Zinn feels have been excluded from traditional textbooks.
This first in a series of annual lectures on contemporary issues viewed from historical perspectives is introduced by Alex H. MacDonald (CAS’72), a former student of Zinn’s, who made the lead gift endowing the series; Maureen Strafford (MED’76), MacDonald’s wife, adds some final words. .
WBUR, Boston University’s award-winning National Public Radio station, broadcast Zinn’s lecture as part of its World of Ideas show. Click here to listen to the show.
