WBUR names Paul La Camera general manager
Boston broadcast veteran starts October 3

Paul A. La Camera, a 33-year veteran of Boston’s WCVB-TV, yesterday was appointed general manager of WBUR, the National Public Radio station owned and operated by BU.
Selected after a five-month search, La Camera, a Boston native and BU alumnus, takes over October 3 from BU Vice President Peter Fiedler, who has served as interim GM since last October.
Until this month, La Camera was president and general manager of WCVB-TV, a post he assumed in February 1994. Prior to that, he served as vice president and station manager of the Boston ABC Network affiliate. Before joining WCVB, he was the director of communications for the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and worked as a reporter for the Boston Record American and Sunday Advertiser.
Says BU President Robert A. Brown: “Our search committee selected Paul based on his professional track record, his overriding commitment to editorial quality, and the fact that he has the reputation and credibility which will enable him to reach out to audiences and underwriters who are important to the station’s future.”
The search committee, chaired by Fiedler, included: Sam Fleming, director of news and programming at WBUR, Robert R. Oakes, the station’s assistant news director and anchor, John Imbergamo, a BU associate vice president of finance, Tobe Berkovitz, the College of Communication associate dean, Anne Donohue, a COM associate professor of journalism, and Katherine Kennedy, director of BU’s Howard Thurman Center.
Says La Camera: “I’m stepping into a great public radio station that has an outstanding and respected staff. I am keenly aware of the station’s heritage and the bond it has with its listeners, and I intend to honor that. I also know that I share a passion with the people who work at WBUR covering issues of substance and consequence – and as general manager, I am going to make that our continuing and overriding goal.”
