Background
Dr. Gustavo Mercier is the Chief of the Division of Molecular Imaging and Nuclear Medicine at Boston Medical Center and Clinical Associate Professor of Radiology at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Mercier is board certified in diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and nuclear cardiology. He graduated from the MD-PhD program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NY and completed radiology residency in The New York Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center. After a year of radiology research at the National Institute of Health, he completed a fellowship in PET imaging and nuclear medicine at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. More recently, and as result of new responsibilities at Boston Medical Center, Dr. Mercier completed advanced degrees in business administration and applied statistics.
Research Interests
In addition to clinical and administrative duties, Dr. Mercier provides technical support to several clinical research programs that apply PET/CT imaging. Notable among these are the projects in Alzheimer’s disease and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Dr. Mercier’s clinical research also includes applications of PET/CT in clinical oncology and cardiology with multiple publications in these areas. Dr. Mercier is a contributor of several book chapters focused in PET/CT imaging, and lectures in PET/CT imaging in national and international meetings. He is a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, American College of Nuclear Medicine, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the Radiologic Society of North America.
