Clinical trials test interventions, such as drugs or devices, as well as diet or lifestyle changes. Drug testing is the focus of many clinical trials. Clinical trials are the primary way that researchers find out if a promising treatment is safe and effective in people.

AHEAD Study: A Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Treatment With BAN2401 in Participants With Preclinical Alzheimer’s Disease and Elevated Amyloid and Also in Participants With Early Preclinical Alzheimer’s Disease and Intermediate Amyloid

Summary:

  • This is a multicenter, phase 3 prevention trial
  • The investigational drug is lecanemab [BAN2401] versus the placebo
  • The study lasts 216 weeks (approximately 4 years)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Adults ages 55-80 inclusive with no memory problems but who may have an increased risk of memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) eg. due to age or a history of AD in a first-degree relative
  • Must be able to safely have MRI and PET scans
  • Must have a close friend or relative who can serve as a study partner
  • Must be able to come to the clinic to receive study drug (transport support will be provided if needed)

You are NOT eligible if:

  • You have been diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, or another dementia
  • You have unstable medical conditions.

MAP Study: Metformin in Alzheimer’s dementia Prevention

Summary:

  • This is a 24-month, phase II/III, randomized clinical trial
  • The investigational drug is extended-release metformin vs. placebo among
  • Participants will be assessed every six months
  • Will have brief telephone assessments every month

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Adults ages 55-90 with amnestic mild cognitive impairment
  • Must have a study partner who can come to the clinic appointments or be available to complete questionnaires by telephone.
  • Must have subjective memory concern reported by the subject, study partner, or clinician.
  • Must be able to come to the clinic to receive study drug (transport support will be provided if needed)

You are NOT eligible if:

  • You have a history of diabetes
  • You have a Dementia diagnosis
