Topics will vary by semester. Topics include such diverse areas as teaching marching band, beginning jazz improvisation, producing musicals, etc. 1 credit, repeatable to a maximum of 5 credits.

Engaging a seminar format, Outside the Box guides students in examining music education and its attendant methods, materials, mindsets and more from contexts – including those employing the Africentric Arts Education Framework – outside of typical school classrooms. Students will participate in fieldwork and class discussions paired with readings and reflections. Final projects will blend academic rigor with artistic output. Class meets Saturdays 9:30am-12:00pm, October 17 - November 21 |
