SED TL 508: Methods of Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), 5-12
Teaching methodologies for English as a Second Language at the middle- and high-school levels, including techniques for developing language skills, content-based language teaching, evaluation and adaption of materials, planning and assessment. Students participate in a field-based component. Course is restricted to students in an ESL Licensure program. 4 cr. -
SED TL 509: Foundations of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Pedagogy
Current theories of second-language teaching, analysis of materials, and practice in adapting and expanding textbook lessons. Focuses on adult, college, and international teaching. 4 cr. -
SED TL 511: Methods of Teaching Modern Foreign Languages
This course examines the current theories of and methodologies for the teaching and learning of modern foreign languages. Students explore foreign language standards, effective instructional methods, assessment tools, underlying theories, and examine current issues in the field. Students will develop lesson and unit plans, and participate in a field placement to observe and reflect upon foreign language teaching in practice. 4 cr. -

Survey of current classroom practices in computer-assisted language learning (CALL), Focus on relationships among teaching, learning, and technological environments involving second and foreign language learners and teachers. 4 cr. -

Focus on current theory/research related to teaching English language learners and the implications for effective language, literacy, and content-area assessment and instructional practices in Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) classrooms. For students seeking licensure in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, and Special Education. 4 cr. -
SED TL 525: Teaching English Language Learners in Middle/High Schools
Focus on current theory/research related to teaching English language learners and the implications for effective language, literacy, and content-area assessment and instructional practices in Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) classrooms in middle/high schools. For students seeking licensure in the content areas at the 5-12 level. 4 cr. -
SED TL 530: School Leadership: English Language Learners
Focus on the responsibilities of school leaders for promoting the academic achievement of English language learners. Emphasis on analysis of home, community and school factors that influence the education of this student population, and identifying and evaluating best practices in assessment and instruction in the Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) classroom. Designed for those seeking licensure as a principal/assistant principal and/or supervisor/director. 2 cr. -

Supervised student teaching. Minimum of 150 hours required. Graduate Prereq: Open only to matriculated graduate students who have completed prerequisites restricted to students in an ESL Licensure program. 4 cr. -
