    Prereq: TH 222 or TH 223. A further examination of a physical approach to acting building upon the work of the previous semesters. Independently motivated investigation of principles in action will be encouraged. The opportunity for each actor to deepen his/her work through continued exploration of psycho-physical connections will arise. Rigorous physical training, object exploration, vocal proposal experimentation, creating and execution of physical action scores. Application to text and character work and the making of montage in collaboration with fellow actors. 3 credits.

    A consideration and introduction of the basic tasks of play direction from script selection through opening night, emphasizing script analysis and interpretation and their projection into staging as well as the process of working with a creative design team and an ensemble cast.

    Survey covering the history of and significant cultural expression through interior decoration and furniture in major civilizations. Work involves research projects with emphasis on historic fabrics and construction. Fall semester. 3 credits.
  • CFA TH 357: History of Tailoring 1
    Prereq: CFA TH280, or consent of instructor. This is a comprehensive course of historical classic nineteenth and twentieth century tailoring techniques, terminology, and fabrics. Fall semester even numbered years. 3 cr (Fall 2012, Fall 2014)
  • CFA TH 359: Photoshop 1
    Studio work in basic to advanced Adobe Photoshop techniques. Project work is designed to accommodate skill level. Fall semester. 1 credit.
  • CFA TH 363: Scene Design 3
    Prereq: CFA DR 258 or CFA TH 264 or consent of instructor. Intermediate design solutions with an emphasis on conceptual approach; work in a variety of theatre spaces. Students work in collaboration with costume and lighting designers and directors. Readings and projects incorporate all theatre genres, ballet, dance, opera, television, and film.

    Prereq: CFA DR 260 or CFA TH 266 or consent of instructor. Painting specific architectural detail; styles in foliage; projects in perspective and trompe l'oeil; special finishes for furniture and constructed projects. Fall semester. 2 credits.

  • CFA TH 369: Tech Production 3
    Prereq: CFA DR 262 or CFA TH 270 or consent of instructor. Large scale project planning and drafting, using abstract objects and producing them as scenery both on paper and in the shop. The class also addresses problem solving for scenery on raked stages and complete design for a modular full-stage rake that can be struck, stored and installed easily. Fall semester. 3 credits.
  • CFA TH 371: Eng for the Stage 1
    Prereq: CFA DR 261 or CFA TH 269 or consent of instructor. An introduction to the classic engineering study of static and strength of materials, specifically with structures and materials typical to technical production of theater in mind. Students learn mathematical and resource methods for calculating structural performance parameters in individual structural members as they interact in a common structure. Discussion of common building practices provides knowledge critical to departing from standard practice. Fall semester. 1 credit.
  • CFA TH 375: Costume Design 3
    Prereq: CFA DR 274 or CFA TH 276 or consent of instructor. For the intermediate design student. Geared toward practical application of design theory. Continued development of script analysis, style, research techniques, and rendering skills. Exercises examine the principles of design as applied to historical costume. Readings and projects incorporate all theatre genres, ballet, dance, and opera, depending on individuals in the class. Fall semester. 3 credits.
  • CFA TH 377: Costume Rendering 1
    Prereq: Advisor recommendation or consent of instructor. Advanced work in figure drawing; specific rendering techniques or costume design. May be repeated for credit. Fall semester. 1 credit.
  • CFA TH 379: Cost Production 3
    Prereq: CFA DR 276 or CFA TH 379 or consent of instructor. In this course the student will construct a three-piece men's suit of the nineteenth or twentieth century. It is a comprehensive course employing classic tailoring techniques, terminology, and fabrics. Fall semester. 3 credits.
  • CFA TH 381: Fabric Dyeing 1 - FY 12, 14
    Prereq: CFA DR 154 or consent of instructor. The student learns a variety of crafts associated with fabric painting and dyeing. Subject matter may include fiber reactive dyeing, fabric painting, batik and resist dyeing, distressing, and silk screen. Check with instructor for current semester content. Fall semester. 1 credit.
