• CFA TH 151: Introduction to Design
  An introduction to the principles of 2D design through graphic studio exercises involving use of varied media in black and white. Does not presuppose any artistic skills. D&P majors only, or permission of instructor required. Fall only. 2 credit.
• CFA TH 153: Frosh Core: Prep for Ensemble
  This is a colloquium style course that is designed to prepare the freshmen for the Theatre Ensemble class they will be enrolled in during the Spring semester. Fall only. 1 credit.
• CFA TH 163: Drafting 1
  Introduction to hand drafting, basic techniques, tools and approach to scenic and technical applications. Fall Semester. 1 credit.
• CFA TH 167: Drawing and Painting Lab 1
  Studio work in introduction to drawing, perspective, & media. Fall semester. 2 credits.
• CFA TH 169: Intro to Theatre Practice
  Basic training in theatre technology, including scenery, costumes, properties, lighting, and sound. Discussion of basic terminology, shop organization, job descriptions, maintenance procedures, and safety. Fall semester. 2 credits.
• CFA TH 177: Figure Drawing 1
  Studio work in figure drawing. May be repeated for credit. Fall semester. 1 credit.
• CFA TH 193: Intro to SM - non-majors
  Functions and responsibilities of stage managing on a professional level. Examination of the job of the stage management team from prep process through rehearsals and opening. Focusing on relationships with other departments in order to support the creative process in your role as a manager. Work involves developing the paperwork necessary to complete a typical production of a straight play. Meets weekly two hours in the spring semester. Fall Semester. 2 credits.
• CFA TH 197: Production
  Each semester that a freshman Design & Production BFA candidate is in residence at SOT, he/she is required to enroll in an appropriate section of Production. Meets late afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends. Specific design and shop work in the mounting of student or professional productions. Does not include off-crew design work. Fall semester. 1 credit per semester assignment.

• CFA TH 239: Aesthetic and Philosophy of Dance
  A survey of current theatrical and dance experience and practice with the Boston arts community, including the work of the Huntington Theatre Company, the American Repertory Theatre, Crash Arts, Celebrity Series, and various other venues. Lectures by faculty and visiting artists introduce each performance/exhibition experience and lead to thoughtful critical response. Course includes class time and attendance at five weekend performances. Ticket fee is approximately $150. 2 cr, 2nd semester. (also, listed as PDP DA 203)
