Courses Section Guidelines

Process for Updating Courses

Each spring, you will provide OUR with a complete list of courses that should appear in the following Bulletin. This must be submitted as a single .txt file. Please list the school acronym with each course number, and do not include course titles or descriptions.

  • The list of courses you provide to OUR should be a complete list of course numbers an entering student can reasonably expect to encounter in the course of completing their degree. For undergraduate programs, this should be four years. For graduate programs, the list should be based on average time to degree.

Course List Tips

  • Removing a course from your course list will NOT remove it from the University Course Inventory, and so it will still be visible in the Course Description Search and Student Link. If you would like to retire the course (and hide it on all platforms), please submit a form to OUR Schedules to phase the course out.
  • Courses that are included in the course list but have not yet been created in the University Course Inventory will not publish to the Bulletin. To create a new course, please submit a form to OUR Schedules, indicating the requested course number. Once the course has been created, forward the confirmation email to Beverly Azure at bazure@bu.edu with the course long title and description, and the course will be updated for Bulletin inclusion.
  • If your school has submitted eCAP proposals that are pending approval when you are compiling your course list, include any pending new courses in your list. At that time you (or someone in your school) should submit a form to OUR Schedules to create the course(s) in inventory, following the process detailed in the bullet above.
  • Course numbers can also be changed via the OUR Schedules form, but note that changes to any required courses must be submitted in eCAP, and if the change is requested after registration has begun for the requested term, the OUR Schedules department may recommend you postpone the renumbering until the following academic year.
