Boston Public Market Now Open Daily Year-round
Pop-up outdoor beer garden today celebrates expanded hours
Buying local just got easier. Starting today, Boston Public Market, the indoor year-round emporium at Haymarket Station featuring locally sourced groceries and specialty products, is open seven days a week (up from five). Popular with locals and tourists since it launched last July, it is now open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The market is home to more than 40 permanent vendors, and all of the food there is produced or originates in New England (90 percent of the products come from Massachusetts). It purports to be the only seasonal, locally sourced market of its kind in the United States.
The marketplace is celebrating its expanded hours with an Outdoor Beer Garden Pop-Up on the plaza from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today and tomorrow. Hopsters Alley, the market’s permanent year-round craft beer store, will pour $5 drafts of several of its offerings (21+). There will be music and games, weather permitting.
Another vendor, Sudbury, Mass.–based Siena Farms, will join in the festivities on the plaza as well with a display of its sunflowers (available for purchase: $3 each, $12 for 5) from 1 to 6 p.m. Free samples of monkfish on Thursday, July 21, and local jams on Friday, July 22, will be handed out. Epicureans can get their knives sharpened on Friday ($10 for a small knife, $15 for large).
Among the market’s other vendors are Bon Me, founded by Alison Fong (CAS’01), and Boston Smoked Fish Co., founded by Matt Baumann (LAW’10) and Chris Avery (LAW’10). The market also routinely hosts “pop-up” vendors, giving visitors a chance to try something new and up-and-coming businesses valuable word-of-mouth exposure.
Another Boston Public Market feature is a series of “happenings,” such as tasting samplings, cooking and food prep demos, talks, and special deals on food (for example, chocolatier Taza gives a free churro with a drink purchase every Wednesday and Thursday). Boston Public Market Kitchen offers year-round programming: cooking demos, lectures, family activities, exercise classes, community events, and more.
Visitors can take a tour of the market during off-peak hours: Thursdays, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Sundays, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sign up by emailing tours@bostonpublicmarket.org or in person, first come, first served.
Boston Public Market, 100 Hanover St., at Haymarket Station, is open year-round: Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Find a list of vendors here, a calendar of upcoming happenings here, and upcoming Boston Public Market Kitchen events here.
