Peer relation post-doc opportunity
Call for candidates for a 2-year postdoc position in Turku, Finland

A Postdoctoral research position for 2 years (with possible renewal for another 2 years) is available in the Peer Relations Research Group at the University of Turku, Finland (Department of Behavioral Sciences and Philosophy, Division of Psychology).
The postdoctoral researcher will be working in the project “Bullying Networks across Classrooms” which is part of the European Collaborative Research Project (ECRP) entitled “Social Influence in Dynamic Networks”.
Other partners in the ECRP come from the UK (PI: Prof. Tom Snijders), Netherlands (PI: Dr Maritje van Dujn), Sweden (PI: Prof. Margaret Kerr), Switzerland (PI: Prof. Alessandro Lomi), Spain (PI: Dr Jose Luis Molina) and Slovenia (PI: Prof. Anuska Ferligoj, leader of the ECRP).
The Finnish sub-project in which the post-doctoral researcher will work focuses on three topics:
A) the balance and influence processes involved in bullying and defending,
B) the impact of classroom-level network characteristics (bullying and defending networks, affiliation networks, antipathy networks) on the adjustment of victims and their perpetrators, and
C) the effects of the KiVa antibullying intervention on the bullying, defending, affiliation, and popularity networks in classrooms.
The senior researchers of the Finnish project are Professor Christina Salmivalli (PI of the Finnish sub-project, University of Turku, Finland), Professor Rene Veenstra (University of Groningen, Netherlands /visiting professor at the University of Turku) and PhD Noona Kiuru (University of Jyväskylä, Finland).
The tasks of the post-doctoral researcher:
– Engaging in academic research and publishing internationally over the topics mentioned above
– Writing proposals for the acquisition of external funds
– Engaging in some teaching and supervision of master students in thedivision of psychology
– Actively participating in research activities in the Peer Relations Research Group
– Participating in annual meetings with the other ECRP partners
The salary is based on the salary system of Finnish universities, and it consists of a task-specific salary component and personal performance salarycomponent. The task-specific salary component of a post-doctoral researcher is typically between 2714.54-3183.06 euros and the component based on personal performance can add 4-46% to this salary. The candidate should have a PhD degree in psychology, sociology, education, criminology, or a related discipline, background in research on peer relations and/or school bullying, some (basic) experience in teaching and supervision, and some previous experience with programs for analyzing network data (e.g., SIENA, ERGM, p2). The candidate should be capable of theoretical/conceptual thinking, to be highly motivated, and have good collaboration skills but also ability to work independently.
