As a city that is at once big and small, Boston can be quite easy to get around (though one should always allow extra time when navigating through the labyrinthine streets of downtown).

The subway system (the MBTA, commonly referred to as “the T”) is easy to understand and always expanding, while buses capably fill in most gaps throughout town.

Bike sharing systems are also expanding and gaining popularity throughout the city, as new construction and road improvements are focusing more attention on demarcating bike lanes.

At BU, the Boston University Shuttle (the BUS), operates on weekdays and evenings. All members of the community hop aboard for a lift down Comm Ave. or between the University’s three campuses.

It’s also easy to catch a cab or rideshare (like Lyft or Uber) when needed. Car-sharing service Zipcar even offers a special rate for BU students,

With a large number of neighborhoods with high walkability scores (ample amenities like grocery stores and post offices, plus available public transport), many residents live quite comfortably car-freeā€”and since the University is a collection of true city campuses, people who work and study at BU are no exception.
