As a city that is at once big and small, Boston can be quite easy to get around (though one should always allow extra time when navigating through the labyrinthine streets of downtown).
The subway system (the MBTA, commonly referred to as “the T”) is easy to understand and always expanding, while buses capably fill in most gaps throughout town.
Bike sharing systems are also expanding and gaining popularity throughout the city, as new construction and road improvements are focusing more attention on demarcating bike lanes.
At BU, the Boston University Shuttle (the BUS), operates on weekdays and evenings. All members of the community hop aboard for a lift down Comm Ave. or between the University’s three campuses.
It’s also easy to catch a cab or rideshare (like Lyft or Uber) when needed. Car-sharing service Zipcar even offers a special rate for BU students,
With a large number of neighborhoods with high walkability scores (ample amenities like grocery stores and post offices, plus available public transport), many residents live quite comfortably car-free—and since the University is a collection of true city campuses, people who work and study at BU are no exception.
Getting to BU
Charles River Campus
Situated along Commonwealth Avenue, the CRC is easily accessible by the B branch of the MBTA green line, as well as several bus routes, like 57, 57A, 47 and CT2.
There are a limited number of metered parking spots throughout campus. Students may apply for commuter or evening parking permits. Note that there is no overnight, on-street parking available in Brookline.
Fenway Campus
The Fenway Campus is a short walk from stops on both the C and D branches of the MBTA green line.
Fenway Campus parking is available in lots at 25 Pilgrim Road, 85 Pilgrim Road, and 43 Hawes Street, and garages at 55 and 65 Pilgrim Road. Note that there is no overnight, on-street parking available in Brookline.
Medical Campus
The Medical Campus is located along many bus lines, including the 47 (which runs from Central Square in Cambridge to Broadway Station in South Boston), the 10 (City Point to Back Bay), and the 1/CT1, which runs the length of Massachusetts Avenue, from Harvard Square to Dudley Station in Roxbury. It is also a short walk from the MBTA orange line.
